Gina Bowen, M.Ed,

Certified Health and Life Coach
Founder, The Moxy Life

I was shaped by two defining moments early in my life.As a teenager, I lost my father to colon cancer. Not long after, my own health began to decline. After more than a year of unanswered questions and physical and mental suffering, I was diagnosed with Lupus. Those experiences fundamentally changed how I understand health, resilience, and the human capacity to adapt. They also taught me something that has stayed with me ever since: clarity, emotional regulation, and intentional action are not “extras”,  they are essential tools for navigating life well. Through my own healing journey, I learned how powerful it is to slow down, regulate the nervous system, and make choices aligned with what truly matters. That process didn’t just help me reclaim my health; it shaped my purpose.

Education and Professional Foundation

My passion for growth and human potential led me to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Child and Human Development and a Master’s degree in Education and Child Life in Hospitals.  My training allowed me to blend evidence-based education with real-world application, supporting individuals and families during some of life’s most vulnerable moments. Across both my education and professional work, I developed a deep respect for how mindset, environment, and daily habits shape outcomes over time. What I bring to my work today is a combination of formal training, lived experience with chronic illness and grief and years of hands-on work helping people navigate change in real life, not theory. I have a strong passion for learning and stay up to date and consistent on the latest findings in child/human development and healthy living.

How I Work

At the heart of my work is a simple truth: mindset shapes everything. My role is to help people make sense of what’s going on; physically, emotionally, and practically and then turn that clarity into action that fits their actual life. I take an investigative, coaching-based approach to identify patterns across symptoms, stress, routines, and lifestyle, then to pull scattered information into a clear, usable picture

and determine the right next step without overwhelm.

I focus on what I call the Core4 essentials: nutrition, movement, sleep, and resilience. Not as rigid rules, but as flexible anchors that support energy, recovery, and long-term well-being. I don’t replace medical care or override recommendations. I work alongside providers and practitioners to support clarity, implementation, and follow-through in a way that feels sustainable and human.

Experience Across Life Stages

My work has included supporting individuals and families across a wide range of life stages, from early development through adulthood with a focus on mindset, emotional regulation, and resilience.

This perspective was shaped in part by co-creating Empowered Kids, a school-based program that helps young people build confidence, self-awareness, and self-advocacy. That work reinforced something I see consistently: the habits and patterns we build early and reinforce over time deeply influence how we navigate stress, health, and change later in life.

Today, this experience informs how I support adults through complex seasons, helping them reconnect with clarity, energy, and agency as they move into what’s next.

Community and Movement

I am also a co-owner of Moxy Strong, a local Encinitas-based health and fitness community built around functional movement, strength, and sustainable wellness for women primarily 40+. The community blends movement, nutrition guidance, mindset coaching, and accountability, supporting people where they are, at their current stage of life. This hands-on, real-world work continues to inform how I coach: grounded, adaptable, and focused on long-term capacity rather than quick fixes.

My Role

Whether working with individuals, families, or groups, my role is to hold space where clarity, growth, and forward movement can take root. Together, we simplify health and life into what truly matters connecting the pieces, building sustainable habits, and creating momentum that lasts.

After years of corporate job pressure, followed by a fast-paced aerospace startup, it finally
caught up and my body gave out both physically and mentally. In fact, I was eventually
hospitalized, and it took years to recover.

What’s so ironic about that life experience and now looking back, it didn’t have to be. There
were physical and mental signs along the way that I ignored. I just didn’t know.  In fact, with
what I know now, I could have thrived through those demanding times.

It took years but I did recover, applying early elements of my work that gave birth to
2X.TRAINING, an efficient and effective method of strength training; as well as my ongoing
work as an FDN-P (Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner) helping people gain a better
perspective on their metabolic health through targeted functional lab testing.

Along with 18 years of performance training and clinical health work, here are some of my
certifications and studies that have reinforced this effort:
